Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas (Location:Irving)
The
mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas is to grant the wishes of
children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience
with hope, strength, and joy. A wish is a child’s answer to the question, “If you
could have anything, go anywhere, be anything, or meet anyone, what would you
choose?”
Vogel Alcove (Location: Dallas)
The mission of the Vogel Alcove is to help alleviate
the plight of homelessness in Dallas by improving the lives of young homeless
children during their critical development years through provision of freee
quality childcare, developmental services and social services.
Child Abuse Prevention Center (Location:
Dallas)
Child Abuse Prevention Center seeks to prevent and
reduce the rate of child abuse by teaching young families of newborns positve
parenting techniques through in-home visitation and other services.
Promise House (Location: Dallas)
Promise House offers one of the only no-cost youth shelters for runaway, homeless and at-risk kids in Dallas County, and it is the only youth shelter in Dallas to provide on-site psychiatric care free of charge.
Ronald McDonald House (Location: Dallas)
The Ronald McDonald House offers a temporary home-away-from-home that serves and sustains families or seriously ill or injured children receiving treatment in a Dallas hospital.
Child Study Center (Location: Dallas)
The Child Study Center provides diagnosis and treatment services to
children who have or are at risk for developmental disabilities and related behaviroal
and emotional problems so that these children may achieve their full potential.
Grants 2008
Children’s Education Fund (Location:Dallas)
Children’s Education Fund is requesting funding for educational scholarships for low-income families. The scholarship program serves 500 youth annually ages 5-14 throughout Dallas County. The goal of the program is to improve the education of underprivileged children by allowing their families to choose the school they attend, thus breaking the cycle of poverty. Research shows that when students have the opportunity to attend the school of their parents’ choice, they show significant improvement academically and increased levels of self-confidence.
Habitat for Humanity (Location: Senegal)
Habitat for Humanity (HFH) is a non-denominational Christian charity dedicated to eliminating poverty housing worldwide. Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates simple, decent homes with the help of homeowner families, through volunteer labour and donations of money and materials.HFH homes are sold to low-income families at no profit and are financed through affordable long-term loans. All mortgage payments, combined with donations, are used to build more homes around the world through the revolving fund. A financial contribution to HFH continues through generations of homeowners. The DNF Foundation gave funds to HFH to build a house in the DNF foundation's name in Senegal.
Jonathan´s Place (Location: Dallas)
The mission of Jonathan’s Place is to provide housing, care, and specialized services to abused, abandoned, and neglected children. This mission is accomplished through a licensed 24-hour emergency shelter, as well as through a Foster and Adoptive Family Program.
Wednesday´s Child (Location: Dallas)
Wednesday’s Child is an organization that provides funds to fulfill the specific needs of North Texas foster children. It strives to provide these children with the hope and healing they need to grow into confident, caring adults that can contribute to society. Wednesday’s Child’s tutoring program seeks to assist children by helping them to catch up to their grade level so that they can enjoy school, feel better about themselves, and excel academically.

Family Place
Family Place received funding for new playground equipment at their facility. This project will annually serve 100 children (ages 0-18) and their mothers, who are participating in this Dallas County transitional housing program. The playground, which will also include benches for the mothers, will be an essential element in helping them overcome the trauma of family violence and homelessness. The mission of Family Place is to eliminate family violence through intervention and proactive prevention, extensive community education, advocacy, and assistance for victims and their families. Family Place programs include a 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, supportive living program, child development center, and community-based counseling.
Vogel Alcove
Vogel Alcove received funding for their play therapy program for homeless children. This program serves approximately 100 youth annually (ages 2-6) in Dallas. Vogel Alcove provides free quality childcare, social services, and developmental services for children living in homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, and transitional housing complexes. Their play therapy program strives to improve the social and emotional development of these children who have experienced trauma caused by domestic violence, homelessness, neglect, and abuse. Play therapists meet with each child 1-2 times a week for 20-45 minutes to monitor the child’s behavior and activities to determine the best way to guide them in understanding themselves, their reality, and their world.
YWCA Fort Worth and Tarrant County YWCA Fort Worth and Tarrant County received funding for their child development program. This program serves 650 youth annually (ages 0-5) at three centers throughout Tarrant County. Their child development program provides quality, affordable early childhood development that will allow low-income and homeless children to grow up to be socially, intellectually, and physically ready for school and a productive life. All children in the program receive a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack everyday. An on-site clothing bank provides clothes, shoes, and diapers as needed, and referrals to health and social service agencies are given to assist with other needs.
Altrusa Club of Dallas Foundation, Inc.
The Altrusa Club of Dallas Foundation received funding for their DUNK (Dallas Uniforms for Needy Kids) project. This project will serve more than 1,800 elementary aged students in the Dallas Independent School District during the 2007-08 school year. The DUNK project will provide clear backpacks containing new school uniforms, books, school supplies, and other necessities to students that qualify for the free/reduced-price lunch program. Since the implementation of the district wide uniform policy in 2005, low income families have had a difficult time acquiring more than the one district-provided uniform (one pair of pants and one shirt). Funding goes to purchase new uniforms and clear backpacks, with books, school supplies, and other items coming by way of donations.
Kidney Texas, Inc.
Kidney Texas received funding for Camp Reynal at Camp John Marc in Meridian, TX. This camp will serve approximately 120 youth (ages 8-16) throughout Texas. Camp Reynal is a one-week summer camp that provides an essential need for children with kidney disease by offering them an educational and recreational experience they can’t get anywhere else. Because children with kidney disease require daily medications, special diets, and medical treatments, they are often excluded from other camp experiences. Camp Reynal, which is the only camp in Texas that provides on-site kidney dialysis, strives to increase self-esteem and self-confidence, create a sense of independence, improve social skills, and offer a sense of hope. Funding covers the cost of camper fees, transportation, storage rental for dialysis chairs, and camper photography.
